SCD District Conservation Farm - Daniel Vineyard - Raleigh County
County Conservation Farms
James Wimmer Farm - McDowell County
Fred and Betty Halsey Farm - Wyoming County
The Daniel Vineyard farm will move forward into the area conservation farm judging in July.

Welcome James " Danny" Carter
The Southern Conservation District is very pleased to welcome Danny Carter to the SCD office as the new Grassland Technician. Danny has years of experience with farming and federal and state programs related to agriculture and conservation programs. He is from the Cool Ridge area in Raleigh County. Danny will begin in this positon on March 4 - stop by to welcome him.

Southern CD regular monthly board meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the SCD office, 463 Ragland Road, Beckley, WV in the upstairs conference room. The meetings begin at 9:45 a.m.
Listed below are the dates for the 2013 scheduled board meetings: January 10, 2013 February 14, 2013 March 14, 2013 April 11, 2013 May 9, 2013 June 13, 2013 July 11, 2013 August 8, 2013 September 12, 2013 October 10, 2013 November 14, 2013 December 12, 2013
special meetings called May 16, 2013 the meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the SCD office June 21, 2013 the meeting will begin following the O&M meeting scheduled for 10:00 a.m. ( board meeting will start around 11:00 a.m.)

The Southern CD is proud to announce Bill Bollenbach as the SCD 2012 Carroll Greene Nominee.
Bill will be submitted as the SCD Carroll Greene nominee to the WV Conservation Agency. The 2012 Carroll Greene winner will be announced at the WVACD Partnership meeting in October.
We want to thank Bill for all of his time and service during the last four years while serving as the SCD Chairman.

Southern Conservation District
announces NEW Agriculture Enhancement Program
The SCD is pleased to announce the implementation of an Agriculture Enhancement Program (AgEP). Sign-ups for the new AgEP program begin August 10, 2012!
The cost share program to qualified cooperators, includes four (4) best management practices: Lime, Nutrient Management, Brush Control including invasive species management of multi-flora rose, autumn olive, horse nettle/sand briers and others, and Frost Seeding on pasture fields.
Cost sharing amounts will vary depending on WVU soil test results taken prior to the practice process. There is a maximum acreage amount for lime and nutrient management of 50 acres each, with invasive species management and frost seeding at a maximum of 20 acres each per cooperator/owner. Soil test kits can be obtained at the Farm Servcie Agency and SCD office in Beckley or from your local Extension Office.
Interested applicants should visit the FSA and SCD offices located at 463 Ragland Road, Beckley, stopping by FSA first to obtain an aerial view photograph of your property before filling out the program applications with the SCD staff. You will need to bring the results of your soil test(s) with you.
For questions call the SCD office at 253-0261 and ask for Danny Carter. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Southern Conservation District is proud to announce they will be helping sponsor the coordination of the Soil and Water Conservation Merit Badge for the 2013 National Boy Scout Jamboree. The event will be held July 15-24, 2013 in WV. We are also working with the Boy Scouts of America and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service on additional plans for the upcoming national event.
