ACCEPTING AGRICULTURE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM APPLICATIONS SOON!

 The West Virginia Conservation Agency and the Eastern Panhandle Conservation District are now taking applications for the Agriculture Enhancement Program. The purpose of the program is to increase farm productivity by conserving soil and making wise use of agricultural resources and improving water quality by offering technical and cost-share assistance as an incentive to implement best management practices.

 

Applications will be accepted for these practices June 1st through June 30th.

 

 

Stream Protection (livestock exclusion): The permanent exclusion of animals from a stream.

  • Cost share is 90%, not to exceed $8,000.
  • Landowners will be reimbursed after installation.
  • Must have livestock in stream to qualify.
  • Practices included fencing, watering systems, stream crossing, and riparian buffers.
  • Practices must be completed by December 12th, 2016.

 

 

Forage Re-Seeding (Hay and/or Pasture): The method of re-establishing adapted and/or compatible species, varieties, or cultivators of herbaceous species suitable for pasture and/or hayland. Planting dates are August 15- September 15.

  • Flat rate of $65/acre.
  • Producers are eligible up to a accumulative of 75 acres of hay and pasture.
  • Soil tests are required to apply. Test must be less than 3 years old.
    • If pH is less than 5.6 for that field it is ineligible.
    • Less than medium score for P & Kit is ineligible.

 

 

Lime -Provide incentive for the maintenance of cropland, hayland, pastureland, vegetables and/or orchard.

  • Cost share is 50% not to exceed $20 per ton.
  • Producers are eligible up to 75 acres.
  • Soil test is needed to apply. Test must be less than 3 years old.
  • Practices must be completed by December 12th, 2016.

 

 

 

Heavy Use Protection Area – The stabilization of areas frequently being used by livestock and/or vehicles. Can be used for the following: Livestock watering areas, livestock trail and walkways, loading and unloading areas, and post-harvest processing areas.

  • Flat rate of $1.32/sq. ft., not to exceed $1,500 per producer.
  • Practices must be completed by December 12th, 2016.

 

 

 

Cover Crops: Must follow a row crop.  Producers are eligible for up to 75 acres.

 Cost share rates are as follows:

$60/ac. by October 4th

$50/ac. by October 18th

$40/ac. by November 8th (ONLY wheat, rye and triticale)
