ACCEPTING AGRICULTURE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM NOW!

Applications will be accepted for these practices December 1st through January 13th, 2017.

Stream Protection (livestock exclusion): The permanent exclusion of animals from a stream.

  • Cost share is 90%, not to exceed $8,000.
  • Landowners will be reimbursed after installation.
  • Must have livestock in stream to qualify.
  • Practices included fencing, watering systems, stream crossing, and riparian buffers.
  • Practices must be completed by June 9, 2017.

Forage Re-Seeding (Hay and/or Pasture): The method of re-establishing adapted and/or compatible species, varieties, or cultivators of herbaceous species suitable for pasture and/or hayland. Planting dates are March 15- April 15.

  • Flat rate of $65/acre.
  • Producers are eligible up to an accumulative of 75 acres of hay and pasture.
  • Soil tests are required to apply. Test must be less than 3 years old.
    • If pH is less than 5.6 for that field it is ineligible.
    • P and K levels need to meet certain requirements: Refer to Ranking form.

Frost-seeding: An economical method of improving pasture and hay fields by broadcasting the seed on frozen ground.  Planting dates are by March 15.

  • Flat rate of $20/ac. on legume seed ONLY
  • Producers are eligible for up to 50 acres.
  • Soil test is needed to apply. Test must be less than 3 years old.
  • If pH is less than 5.6 for that field it is ineligible.

Heavy Use Protection Area – The stabilization of areas frequently being used by livestock and/or vehicles. Can be used for the following: Livestock watering areas, livestock trail and walkways, loading and unloading areas, and post-harvest processing areas.

  • Flat rate of $1.32/sq. ft., not to exceed $1,500 per producer.
  • Practices must be completed by June 9, 2017.

Continual Sign up 

Lime-Provide incentive for the maintenance of cropland, hayland, pastureland, vegetables and/or orchard.

  • Cost share is 50% not to exceed $20 per ton.
  • Producers are eligible up to 75 acres.
  • Soil test is needed to apply. Test must be less than 3 years old.
  • Practices must be completed by June 9, 2017.

Agendas are available at least three days prior to the meeting and may be obtained by calling the Eastern Panhandle Conservation District office at 304-263-4376. 

Concerned citizens living in Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan Counties are invited to attend and give their input on issues concerning conservation. Please contact the District Office by the Thursday preceding the meeting to be place on the agenda to speak. 

All meetings are held at the USDA Service Center Conference Room located at 151 Aikens Center, Martinsburg, WV starting at 7 pm. unless otherwise posted.
