GVCD Announces Agricultural Enhancement Program Signup
The Greenbrier Valley Conservation District announces the continuation of the West Virginia Agricultural Enhancement Program (AgEP). The basis of this cost-share program is to increase profitability and sustainability by encouraging farm productivity through conserving soil and implementing best management practices. Applications are being accepted on a continuous basis for cost-share on lime as long as funds are available. Although the deadline has expired this year for applications for the grant and woody invasive species components of AgEP, please contact the GVCD office at 304-645-6173 for further information about the program.

Greenbrier Valley Conservation District Announces Century Farm Program
The Greenbrier Valley Conservation District is pleased to announce that the West Virginia Association of Conservation Districts is continuing the West Virginia Century Farm Program. We are seeking to recognize families who have been farming the same tract of land for at least 100 years. The farm must have been in continuous operation by the same family and a family member must live on the farm or be an integral part of the day-to-day operation of the farm enterprise. The farm must also consist of at least 10 acres of the original holdings and gross more than $1,000 annually from farm products.
All farms selected in 2013 will be recognized at the WV Annual Conservation Partnership Conference at the Days Hotel in Flatwoods, WV in October. For this year’s recognition, applications must be received by the GVCD no later than April 1, 2013. Signs will be awarded to the Century Farm families selected by the GVCD. Applications received after April 1, 2013 will be held for 2014 consideration.
For an application form, please contact the Greenbrier Valley Conservation District at 304-645-6173 or the USDA Farm Service Agency at 304-645-6172 at 179 Northridge Drive, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
