DEP Junior Conservation Camp

The Junior Conservation Camp is for youth between the ages of 11 and 14. It’s designed to help the first-time camper feel comfortable but is interesting enough to keep the more experienced camper interested and eager to begin another activity.

Junior Conservation Camp is held each year at Cedar Lakes in Ripley, WV for five days. Classes include forestry, recycling, first aid, soil conservation, hunter education, archery, orienteering and many others. Sports activities include basketball, kickball, volleyball, miniature golf, swimming and more.

WV State Conservation Camp

West Virginia State Conservation Camp is held in June at Camp Caesar (Webster County). Campers must be 14 to18 years of age as of January 1, to be eligible for this camp. West Virginia State Conservation Camp strives to increase the awareness of youth in West Virginia concerning the states natural resources and to instruct them in the wise use and management of those resources. Some of the classes offered at camp are Forest Management, Nature Trail, Water Conservation, Parks and Recreation and many more. Evening activates include Fishing, Game Demonstrations, Archery, Outdoor Cooking, Sports, and Campfires to name a few.

Ted Harriman Forest Industries Camp

This camp is the ideal experience for young adults, ages 16-20, that are interested in forestry. Rustic Camp Mahonegon, on the Upshur/Randolph County line, about three miles north of Ellamore, provides the perfect natural setting needed to study forests and streams. Campers experience five full days of rigorous forestry training including:

• Forest Insects & Diseases
• Forest Management Techniques & Plans
• Leaf Collecting
• Monitoring Water Quality
• Studying Forest Ecosystems
• Tree Identification
• Wilderness Areas & Forest Recreation
• Wood Industry Tour

Evening recreational activities include softball, volleyball and camp meetings. The camp culminates in a Woodmen's Competition where campers compete in events that include log rolling, cross cut sawing, tree identification and pacing.
