The West Virginia Conservation Agency promotes the use of poultry litter as a fertilizer. Poultry litter is as an excellent low cost fertilizer if managed properly. Land application of litter returns nutrients and organic matter to the soil, building fertility and soil quality. In addition to nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, litter contains valuable calcium, magnesium, sulfur and other micronutrients.
The WVCA offers a program to assist in facilitating the transfer of poultry litter from the Potomac Valley (Hardy, Grant, Hampshire, Pendleton and Mineral Counties) to other areas of the state with nutrient deficient soils. WVCA encourages all participants to follow proper nutrient management planning.
