posted by: Davin White

Mark Fitzsimmons, a conservation district supervisor for the Northern Panhandle Conservation District, received the 2018 Carroll Greene Award during this year’s West Virginia Conservation Awards and Recognition Luncheon in Flatwoods on Oct. 16.

The annual award is given to a person who exhibits exemplary service and dedication to the cause of soil and water resource conservation. Greene served as executive secretary to the State Soil Conservation Committee from 1949 to 1979.

Fitzsimmons is very active in his district and is passionate about the Envirothon and a variety of conservation education initiatives, among his other efforts. He ran the student scholarship auction the night before the awards luncheon and he chairs the West Virginia Association of Conservation Districts’ Education Committee.

Fitzsimmons received the award at the luncheon from Shirley Hyre, an Elk Conservation District supervisor and the 2017 Carroll Greene Award winner.
