McDowell County is taking a big step toward a safer future with the Flood Mitigation Action Strategy, and they want to hear from you. The West Virginia Conservation Agency, Guyan Conservation District, and Tetra Tech are hosting four community meetings to gather local input on flood problem areas and potential solutions. Whether you’ve lived through recent flooding or just want to help shape the roadmap for a more resilient county, your experience is the most valuable part of this process. There are two dates and four total sessions available, so you can pick the time and location that works best for you:

| Southern Conservation District FY27 Agricultural Enhancement Program: New Guidelines and Practice Up - 3/27/26 |

The Southern Conservation District is pleased to announce the Agricultural Enhancement Program (AgEP) for Fiscal Year 2027, featuring an updated application window from May 18, 2026, to May 29, 2026. This year’s program introduces several critical changes, including a single application period for all practices and a new cancellation policy regarding participant eligibility. We have expanded our available practices to include Winter Grazing and Invasive Species Management, alongside ongoing support for lime, nutrient management, and fencing. To qualify, all applicants must be a Southern Conservation District Cooperator and provide a current FSA Farm Map with their submission. The Southern Conservation District is calling on photographers, landowners, and nature lovers to capture conservation where it truly lives—on the ground, in the soil, along our streams, and in the everyday work that protects our natural resources. This isn’t just a photo contest. It’s a chance to showcase the grit, growth, and real impact of conservation across our communities. From conservation practices in action to powerful up-close moments in nature, your photo could be featured on district social media, highlighted in marketing publications, and even recognized at our annual Fall Banquet. Entries open January 2, 2026, and run through May 30, 2026—so grab your camera, get outside, and show us what conservation looks like through your lens! View PDF |
