Please see attached notice from USDA designating 13 WV counties as primary natural disaster areas due to recent drought, plus 12 contiguous counties that may also be eligible for assistance. This is all the information we have at this time, so please reach out to your local FSA office if you need details about the disaster designation or the loan programs. We’re excited to share some great news from the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. TVCD Board Chair Donnie Tenney will be inducted into the WV Agriculture and Forestry Hall of Fame on Saturday, July 11. This honor reflects his lifelong service to agriculture, conservation, and his community.

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture has shared new rules for bringing warm-blooded animals into the state because of recent New World Screwworm cases in the U.S. These steps help protect WV farms and pets. Key points:

* Animals from confirmed NWS areas need a WVDA entry permit at least 48 hours before travel.

* Animals from nearby surveillance or high-risk areas need a vet certificate from the past 7 days showing they’re free of NWS.

* Federal bird flu rules still apply.

We’re glad to share the latest election results for the Tygarts Valley Conservation District.

Barbour County

• Tom Short is still serving.
• Delbert Vandevander was re-elected.

Randolph County

• James Dean is still serving.
• Tim Cunningham resigned on 4/11/26.
• No one filed to run, so TVCD will advertise.

Taylor County

• Joseph Shaffer was re-elected.
• Logan Hosaflook has been serving as interim since 10/6/25 and is now officially elected.

Tucker County

• Jim Nester is still serving.
• Don Adams would have been up for re-election, but has chosen to finish his term and then step down.
• No one filed to run, so TVCD will advertise.

Upshur County

• Mateal Poling is still serving.
• Donnie Tenney was re-elected.
