Elkwater Fork dam's reservoir closed to boating

ELKINS, W.Va. -- A safety boom at Elkwater Fork Dam in Randolph County has broken, which makes it necessary to close the reservoir to boating until further notice.

The Tygarts Valley Conservation District and the West Virginia Conservation Agency will work together on a repair plan. The reservoir at the dam will remain closed to boaters until the repairs are completed.

A safety boom prevents boats from going over top of the dam.

Signs will be posted at the site and a gate to the boat access area will be closed.

The Tygarts Valley Conservation District and the West Virginia Conservation Agency are working with the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources to notify the public about the closure.
